Nakesumi Doun Edo After Nanga Scroll (c. 1880 - , Tottori) View objects by this artist. |
Nakasumi Doun is a little known artist from Tottori Prefecture, but this painting shows that he had a very great skill. Each bird is alive, none is stiff; and, upon a closer look, no lines overlap. The only thing which would preclude trying to pass this off as an Edo work would be the quality of the silk and the "chemical" colors. Once fashion turned to Western culture, with the coming of the Meiji Period, not only did the artists themselves change, but so did the makers of brushes, inks, silks and other producers of necessary items perfected for the arts of the Edo Period.
