Maruyama painter. Born in Otsu. Pupil of Watanabe Nangaku and, later, of Maruyama Ozui. Late-Edo exponent of the Maruyama manner. Kono Bairei and Kawabata Gyokusho were his pupils. Splendid pictures of swimming fish. -- Roberts, L. Dictionary of Japanese Artists (1980)
