Japanese, (1807 ?–1862)
Nanga painter. Studied under Onishi Keisai until his death; then became one of chief followers of Watanabe Kazan. Lived in Edo as retainer of Lord Okubo of Odawara; in later years served the Doi clan. Famous for his kachoga painted in a style close to that of Tsubaki Chinzan and Kanzan:bold, gorgeous color, realistic detail. Also versed in the military arts. -- Roberts, L.
