Edo Rimpa Painter & Poet
Japanese, (c.1755–c.1810)
Rimpa painter. Also haiku poet. Born in Kyoto; lived in Osaka. Much influenced by Korin. In early 1800s in Edo, preparing Korin Gafu, a book on Korin's paintings. Made excellent use of the tarashikomi technique, whereby one color is applied with a wet brush and another put over it before it has dried. A charming Rimpa artist. -- Roberts, L.
