Maruyama painter. Born in Tottori. To Kyoto, becoming first a pupil of Maruyama Okyo, then of So Shiseki. Also followed the tradition of late Ming and Ch'ing realistic painting. Returned to Tottori and served as official painter to Lord Ikeda of the Tottori fief. Good painter of carp and birds-and-flowers, the Maruyama influence predominates in his style. -- Roberts, L.
