Nagasaki painter. Adopted son of Watanabe Shusai. Pupil of Ishizaki Gensho and Ishizaki Gentoku. In 1761, on Shusai's death, inherited position of kara-e mekiki at Nagasaki. Painted landscapes, birds-and-flowers, figures, tigers. -- Roberts, L. Dictionary of Japanese Artists (1980)
