Japanese, (1747–1797)
Maruyama painter. Lived in Kyoto. Onc of Maruyama Okyo's ten best pupils. Used the name Genki because he claimed descent from the Minamoto (or Gen) family. Specializeid in flowers and animals; was also celebrated for his exquisite paintings of women in Chinese dress—the so-called court-lady pictures—which show in subject matter the influence of the then popular contemporary Chinese style. -- Roberts, L.
