Japanese, (1776–1829)
Maruyama painter. Eldest son and pupil of Okyo, whom he succeeded as second generation of the Marnyama school. Adopted Oshin, son of his brother Oju, as his son. In the 1790s was commissioned to paint some of the fusuma for the restoration of the Imperial Palace in Kyoto. Followed his father's style faithfully; became particularly skillful in the use of gold dust and silver dust. -- Roberts, L. Dictionary of Japanese Artists (1980)
